Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) Repairs
Stand up paddle boards are built for adventure, but like any composite watercraft, they don’t always come back from the season without a few bumps and bruises. Whether it’s a crack from a dock impact, a ding from transport, or damage from hitting rocks in shallow water, even small damage on a fiberglass SUP should never be ignored.
At Johnny’s Boat Shop, we repair all kinds of stand up paddle board damage, and one of the biggest things we warn paddlers about is water intrusion.
If your composite SUP has a crack, chip, or puncture, water can slowly make its way inside the board. Once water gets into the core, it can add weight, weaken the structure, and cause damage from the inside out. What starts as a small ding can quickly become a much larger repair if it’s left untreated for too long.
One of the easiest ways to reduce further damage while you wait for a proper repair is to temporarily seal the area. We carry a product called Ding Tape that works well as a temporary band-aid for cracks and dings. It’s not intended as a permanent repair, but it can help keep water out long enough to safely bring your board into the shop for assessment.
The important thing is not to continue paddling a damaged board without protecting it first. Water damage inside a composite SUP is much harder and more expensive to repair than a simple surface crack caught early.
Over the years we’ve repaired just about every type of watercraft damage imaginable, from paddle boards and canoes to kayaks and specialty composite boats. With more than 20 years of repair experience, we have the tools, materials, and knowledge to properly restore damaged SUPs using professional composite repair techniques.
Every repair starts with a free quote. Bring your stand up paddle board into Johnny’s Boat Shop and we’ll assess the damage, explain the repair process, and recommend the best solution to get you back on the water.
Because paddling season in Muskoka is short, we always do our best to keep turnaround times reasonable whenever possible.
